The Happy Place 5: A Book Character Tea Party

THP5 description: The Happy Place 5 is a monthly series where a few friends and I post 5 of our favorites books for a certain topic or theme. The name is from a Discord group that I am a part of. We created the space to have a positive environment for a handful of close friends. All of us are bookworms, and many of us are bookstagrammers and bloggers. So we decided to start a blog post series together! I’ll link my friends blogs and posts for this month’s topic at the end of this post. Post: Book character tea party

Look, we all know I’m not the best at being consistent with blogging haha. May has been a busy month for me – friends in town, catching COVID….etc. But now it’s blogging time again baby!! Today (May 21st) is International Tea Day so we decided to create a book character tea party. Which if you think about it, is actually quite difficult! Because a lot of characters out there, at least in SFF, are not ummm well-suited to attending a calm tea party haha. Do you think you can guess any of my attendees? Here’s a hint in the form of the books I chose from.

First of all, I am inviting Dex (A Psalm for the Wild-Built), who is a traveling tea monk. I mean we gotta have someone here who actually knows tea right?? They would be able to brew tea special to each member of the party, and would be an excellent listener. It would also be great to hear them talk about the different places that they’ve travelled to.

Since we have the tea down, now we need someone to cover our food. So our second attendee is Tarek Mansour (We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This). He has worked for his family’s catering business for a long time, and loves cooking. It really makes a difference when chefs love what they do! He can both cook and bake, so we would be in good hands for all sorts of tasty treats. Tarek is very friendly, and would probably get along with everyone.

It’s not a party without music right?? So Katrina Nguyen (Light from Uncommon Stars) is the next person on the list. She plays the violin BEAUTIFULLY!!!!! I mean, her mentor thought she played so well that she was going to offer her soul to the devil. And she plays all sorts of music, not just classic which is what most think of when they hear “violin.”

Okay now that’s half of our book character tea party. I think next I’ll invite two characters who have traveled to many places. I’m not the best at starting conversations, so I’m hoping these two can tell us about their adventures and keep things flowing and interesting! So our final two tea party friends are Magnus (The Adventure Zone graphic novels) and Xingyin (Daughter of the Moon Goddess). Both of them have gone on incredible adventures filled with magic and vicious enemies and wonderful lands. I know their tales will be amazing.

What do you think of my tea party? Would you like an invitation? And who would you invite if you were hosting the party?
