Colour Me Read Challenge: December Challenge Card

December 2, 2016 by Ri No Comments

colour me read challenge

I’m a couple of days late but it’s HERE! ✨💝  For those of you waiting for December’s Colour Me Read Challenge, please send Rae a hug/book/gingerbread cookie because if she didn’t ask me about the challenge, I would have skipped it 🙈  Given that December is already a busy month for many, I didn’t know if people would be up for a challenge! I know some of you are interested, so this is for you 😙
⎼⎼⎼
Your challenge, should you accept it:

🎄 Cross-genre
Also known as ‘hybrid genre’ is a genre in fiction that blends elements of two or three different genres in literature. Some examples include: historical fantasy, romantic comedy, sci-fi and mystery, supernatural drama, etc. There is no strict definition so it’s also open to interpretation! I didn’t even know this was an official genre, so imagine my delight when Rae (bless her) suggested it to me!

🎄 Reader’s choice
This is not necessarily a genre but if there was a genre from the previous challenges you didn’t get to, now’s the time to pick it up! Another option is going back to a genre you loved because of this challenge OR simply going back to your favourite! Here’s a list of the past genres we’ve done/covered:

June: Contemporary / Romance
July: Classics / Historical Fiction
Aug: Fantasy / Sci-fi
Sept: Self-Help / Informational
Oct: Thriller / Horror
Nov: Children’s literature / Young adult
⎼⎼⎼
If you loved this challenge THANK YOU for participating whenever you can. ❤️ I’m excited about planning for 2017 and I’d love to know genres you’d be interested in seeing! Do you guys prefer getting the card well before the next month or are you okay waiting til the 1st? Let me know 😊

Book Review: The Night Circus

November 30, 2016 by Ri No Comments

the night circus erin morgensternAuthor: Erin Morgenstern
Genre: Fantasy, Adult Fiction
Format: Hardback
Pages: 387
Book Depository

Synopsis:

In 1886, a mysterious travelling circus becomes an international sensation. Open only at night, constructed entirely in black and white, Le Cirque des Rêves delights all who wander its circular paths and warm themselves at its bonfire.

Although there are acrobats, fortune-tellers and contortionists, the Circus of Dreams is no conventional spectacle. Some tents contain clouds, some ice. The circus seems almost to cast a spell over its aficionados, who call themselves the rêveurs – the dreamers. At the heart of the story is the tangled relationship between two young magicians, Celia, the enchanter’s daughter, and Marco, the sorcerer’s apprentice. At the behest of their shadowy masters, they find themselves locked in a deadly contest, forced to test the very limits of the imagination, and of their love.

A fabulous, fin-de-siècle feast for the senses and a life-affirming love story, The Night Circus is a captivating novel that will make the real world seem fantastical and a fantasy world real.
