Publisher Recommendation: Angry Robot Books
Quite a while ago I shared a publisher recommendation for TorDotCom, and I’m here to continue the publisher rec series with a new installment. Angry Robot has quickly become one of my favorite publishers for many reasons. They are, in their own words, “dedicated to the best in modern adult science fiction, fantasy and WTF?!” Which I mean, how can you resist that?
Sooooo Why Do I Love Angry Robot?
I mean, I love sci-fi and fantasy, so that’s an easy reason since that’s mostly the genres they publish! I’ve read some great books of theirs (which I’ll talk about in the next section). They have some excellent and underrated gems in their catalog and I love discovering them. Honestly I haven’t disliked a single book I’ve read from them! Another great thing is that they publish a decent number of standalone books. Obviously I love a good series, but sometimes I just can’t stand cliffhangers and waiting for another book!
They also have a super fun Twitter presence. That website is a hellhole, but Angry Robot makes it infinitely better with their great posts. I also love how interactive they are, both with readers/reviewers, and with hyping up their current books and authors. It’s so great to see them spread the love equally for all of their books – unlike some of the bigger publishers who clearly have favorites… that’s all I’ll say on THAT.
Oh also, their website has a really great search function – they’ve sorted their books into subcategories. So if you have a specific type of book you’re looking for, say steampunk, you can see all of their steampunk books super easily!
Related to this is the file system that they always print on the back of their books. It’s one of my FAVORITE details that I’ve seen on books, like ever. For example, The Maleficent Seven has the following: “File Under: Fantasy [ Heroes or Horrors? | Flames and Faith | Blood and Guts | Hell Demons ]”. Twenty-Five to Life has this: “File Under: Science Fiction [ #VanLife | Driving Out and Growing Up | No (wo)man left behind | Cube Route ]”. I mean, aren’t these great?? I wish all books had them!
Another MASSIVE factor in me loving Angry Robot is the people that work there. They have always been so kind to me whenever I email them or contact them on social media. I really feel like they appreciate their readers so so much. They’ve reached out to me to participate in lots of book tours, and have been so kind every time. I’m a fan for life!!
Favorite Angry Robot Books
I’ve got a few reviews here on the blog for some of my favorite books of theirs! Out of these, I think The Maleficent Seven would be my top read. It was so much fun!! And I just realized that’s the only fantasy one out of these haha. The other four are sci-fi!

Books I’m Excited to Read
SO many. I mean just to start, I’m super excited for both Swashbucklers and Forging a Nightmare. Both have already been released, I just need to actually get around to them haha. Swashbucklers features a talking fox and video game consoles turned into weapons, and also ghostbusting. So that definitely sounds like a good time haha. Forging a Nightmare is by a Black author, and features Black main characters – we always love to see that! And its an urban fantasy murder mystery set in NYC. I cannot wait!!!!
A few that are upcoming that I’m excited for are:
- Bluebird – File Under: Science Fiction [ Independent Women | Robbing Hood | Keep Your Enemies Close | Guns Don’t Kill People ]
- The Circus Infinite – File Under: Science Fiction [ Misfit Fits In | Crime Never Pays | Loop The Loops | Balancing Act ]
- Mercury Rising – (tags upcoming)
- The Splendid City – (tags upcoming)
Hopefully I’ve convinced you to check out their books! Have you read any of them already? If yes, which ones? If no, were there any I mentioned that caught your eye?
I’ve read a couple of Angry Robot books but had no idea that they had published so many. I definitely need to look at more of these. And follow them on Twitter! Thanks for the post.
yeah they really have a ton!! thanks so much for reading 🙂
