#SciFiMonth – My Favorite Sci-Fi Novellas!
So, I admit defeat. I have miserably failed at #SciFiMonth. Sometimes I get in blogging and reading ruts, and turns out the most of November was a rut for me. My philosophy is to not force myself to read or blog during those times, since I don’t want either to feel like a chore. So I spent time playing video games, watching tv, and hanging out with my family. But I wanted to squeeze in one more post before the month ends! I saw that the SciFiMonth Twitter had posted about a post that Laura made about sci-fi novellas, so that sparked my motivation a bit and here I am doing the same! So thank you Laura for the inspo.
- The Past is Red by Cathrynne M. Valente
- This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone and Amal El-Mohtar
- On a Red Station, Drifting by Aliette de Bodard
- Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters by Aimee Ogden (review here)
- Killing Gravity by Corey J. White
- A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers
- All Systems Red by Martha Wells
So it’s a little weird that three of these have the word “red” in the title, and one more of them (This is How You Lose the Time War) has a character called “Red” in it. Hmmmm. That seems like a strange coincidence. But anyway, I love all of these with my whole heart. And the ones that are series, I love the entire series.
These seven cover the bases of pretty much anything you could want. Beautiful prose? This is How You Lose the Time War. Or how about action and relatable characters? Then go read Killing Gravity and All Systems Red. A retelling? Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters is the way to go. Oh so you want politics in space? On a Red Station, Drifting is what you gotta read. What about a weird look at a possible future Earth? The Past is Red. And if you just need a hug, or to feel happy, then look no further than A Psalm for the Wild-Built.
What are some of your favorite sci-fi novellas?
I so appreciate your post, perspective, and fav book lists / books read whenever it is easy for you to produce!
Thank you so much!! That really means a lot to me!
