Colour Me Read Challenge: June Challenge Card

June 1, 2017 by Ri No Comments

CMR-June

Are you ready for another month of the Colour Me Read Challenge?! Your genres for this month are:

Western Fiction
Books in this genre are set in the American Old West and are typically set between the late 18th and 19th centuries. If you’re looking for recommendations, I found this list of the 12 Best Darn Western Books of All Time. Goodreads also has a longer list if none of the 12 books catch your interest!

Space Opera
Books in this genre often emphasize romantic, often melodramatic adventures, set mainly or entirely in outer space. These stories usually involve conflict between opponents possessing advanced abilities, weapons, and other technology. Think Star Wars or Dune! Goodreads also has a list you can check out.

I’m personally not a reader of these genres, so this will be extra challenging for me! Ideally I’d like to read a book for each category, but we’ll see how doable that is given other books I want to read this month. 🙊  My picks are True Grit for Western fiction and The Promise of the Child for Space Opera.

Are you an avid reader of these genres? I’d love some recommendations!

Colour Me Read Challenge: September Challenge Card

August 24, 2016 by Ri No Comments

CMR-Sept

Genres:

  • Self-help/self-development/self-improvement

Books in this genre are based on one’s own effort regarding self-guided improvements in their physical, emotional, mental, relational, or economical well-being. Check out Goodreads’ Self-help Books Shelf for examples!

  • Informational

Informational books explain known facts about specific topics and can be about anything! Want to learn about photography? There’s a book for that! What about languages or history? There are books for those too! More likely than not, there are books about any topic you’re interested in learning. Goodreads doesn’t have the best book shelf for informational books (I checked) but finding books in this genre is easy. If you’re interested in learning about it, Google will likely point you to the most popular books in that area.

I hope this clears up questions you may have about these genres. It’s important to keep in mind that these genres can overlap and that’s okay! The main focus of this challenge is to get you to read a book outside of your comfort zone. If you don’t regularly read these books and this challenge encourages you to pick one from either genre, it’s a win-win situation!

Colour Me Read Challenge: August Challenge Card

July 25, 2016 by Ri 3 Comments

CMR-Aug

How August is a week away I’ll never know but I’m here to share the Challenge Card for next month’s Colour Me Read Challenge! 😃  I have a feeling August will be a better month for me – I’ll have more time to catch up on life so I’m excited to be more active here soon! 😊

Next month’s genres are Fantasy and Science Fiction. Many of you know I’m a big lover of fantasy books so I’m really looking forward to this one! I haven’t read many science fiction novels though, but I do have a couple on my shelf I need to pay attention to (i.e. Dune, Illuminae). 🤓

Any books come to mind when you think of these genres? I’m aiming to read books from both! I haven’t had a chance to really participate for July’s genres, but there’s still a few days left so hopefully I can squeeze a book in! I’m proud to say I finished Jane Steele today after many weeks of not having time to read (I started it in May). 😅  I did enjoy it more than I thought I would and it was a great combination of mystery and crime fiction.

How’s July been for everyone? Any new favourites?

Colour Me Read Challenge: June Challenge Card

May 25, 2016 by Ri No Comments

As May winds down to a close I give you the June Challenge Card for the #colourmereadchallenge!

GENRES OF THE MONTH:
📖 Contemporary – a type of fiction that creates imaginary characters and situations that depict our world and society. It focuses on themes of growing up and confronting personal and social problems. This genre portrays characters coming to understand themselves and others.

📖 Romance – a type of fiction that places its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an “emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.”

I think this one will be a challenge for me since my experience with these genres tend to be 50/50. 🙈

Which genre do you think you’ll be picking? Did a book come to mind? Let me know!

I’ll probably pick a book by John Green or Stephanie Perkins, since their books typically fall under both. 😊

I hope you guys continue to spread the word about this challenge! Never hesitate to repost the Challenge Card or post a photo with your book(s) while using the hashtag. The response so far has been amazing and I hope you continue to have fun with me as I do with you! ❤️😁
