#SciFiMonth – My Favorite Sci-Fi Novellas!

November 29, 2021 by Mackenzie 2 Comments

So, I admit defeat. I have miserably failed at #SciFiMonth. Sometimes I get in blogging and reading ruts, and turns out the most of November was a rut for me. My philosophy is to not force myself to read or blog during those times, since I don’t want either to feel like a chore. The Happy Place 5: Genre Hybrids

July 7, 2021 by Mackenzie No Comments

The Happy Place 5 is a monthly series where a few friends and I post 5 of our favorites books for a certain topic or theme. The name is from a Discord group that I am a part of. I’m sure this surprises no one at all that this is the genre hybrid I chose to talk about today haha. I’m sure some of these you’ve heard me talk about before, but I can’t resist the chance to push them on you again!!

I wanted to share with you some of my favorite first lines from various novels. By definition, the first line of a book is the first thing we read. From them we can get a hint about the story and the feeling of the book. They’re the kind of thing that can be SUPER impactful if done well, but never hurts the story if they’re not a “blow-you-away” kind of line.

Some of them I like because they are funny, others because they are jarring, and others because they’re just damn beautiful.
