How I Choose My Books Book Tag!

October 15, 2021 by Mackenzie 9 Comments

I haven’t done a book tag in a while and I like the creative questions that people come up with! Other people are much more creative than I am LOL. Anyways I saw Meghan @ Whimsically Meghan do this one, and I really loved the questions so I thought I would do it myself! It’s all about discussing why you pick up the books that you do. Here’s a preview of some of the books that I chose for the prompts:

Books (+etc) to Warm Your Heart

April 22, 2020 by Mackenzie 4 Comments

Hello friends! I hope you are all staying healthy and indoors – and relatively sane (as sane as we can be). I don’t know about you, but my reading has drastically slowed down because of everything happening. In March I only read 3 books, and April hasn’t been much better. I’ve been focusing on doing things that make me happy! And obviously reading makes me happy, but I’m finding it hard to concentrate and read sometimes.

As I said I’ve been trying to do things that make me happy – and by that I really mean reading or watching or playing things that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! Like, all the cute feels. So I’m here to recommend a variety of things that make me feel that way, in case you also need recs for things like that!

Six Degrees of Separation – Murmur –> ??

June 1, 2019 by Mackenzie 2 Comments

Happy June! I did one of these Six Degrees of Separation posts two months ago and it was a lot of fun, so I wanted to do it again! Basically you make a list of six books, with each one connecting to the next in some way. It can be any kind of connection! I love this because I love seeing the different ways people think and make connections. This meme (actually called #6Degrees) is hosted by Kate at Books Are My Favorite and Best.

Today’s starting point is Murmur by Will Eaves. This was the winner of the 2019 Wellcome Prize, which celebrates topics of health and medicine in literature. I haven’t read it, but the Goodreads synopsis sounds really intriguing:

“Taking its cue from the arrest and legally enforced chemical castration of the mathematician Alan Turing, Murmur is the account of a man who responds to intolerable physical and mental stress with love, honour and a rigorous, unsentimental curiosity about the ways in which we perceive ourselves and the world. Formally audacious, daring in its intellectual inquiry and unwaveringly humane, Will Eaves’s new novel is a rare achievement.”

Top Ten Tuesday: Rainy Day Reads

April 16, 2019 by Mackenzie 24 Comments

You know what they say, April showers bring May flowers right? Well, regardless, New Jersey seems to be taking the “April showers” to heart because we’ve been having a lot of rain lately, and there’s a lot in the forecast. What a perfect time to talk about rainy day reads! Honestly for me anything is a rainy day read. I love being cozy inside with a candle and blanket, reading a book while it rains outside. But I’m gonna pick a few today that to me give off the vibe of a gloomy but ultimately happy day.

And thank you to Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl for hosting/organizing Top Ten Tuesday!

I Would Give Up the Internet For…

April 4, 2019 by Mackenzie 3 Comments

If I’m being honest, I wouldn’t give up the internet for much haha. Partly for the social media/fun/etc but also because it’s pretty much essential for my research/work lol. I know that many people in older generations think that we waste too much time on the internet (and sometimes it’s true) but I think I’ve just found a different community of people online that fill my life with good things! It’s not that much different than having a real life community.

Anyway! I’m rambling. I found this cool tag that was originally a BookTube tag, but Shelumiel @ Bookish and Awesome turned it into a blog tag so yay! I think it’s called the Extraordinary Means tag, because it originally is inspired by the book Extraordinary Means and is all about the crazy things you’d do for books/authors/etc.
