Favorite Book Titles!

December 10, 2020 by Mackenzie No Comments

This post will be short and sweet, but titles are something that give me joy! And these days, I take any little piece of joy I can get. For this I specifically chose “long” book titles, which I defined to myself to be longer than five words. I was going to do many different lengths but the post was kinda getting out of hand haha.

Sometimes book titles are very obvious in how they connect to the story, and sometimes they have like a secret meaning that you don’t get until you read further in. I love both styles of title! How do authors come up with such amazing titles? I feel like it’s a gift. Anyway enough of me rambling about titles, here’s my list of favs!

  • The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (by Becky Chambers)
  • The House in the Cerulean Sea (by T.J. Klune, my review here)
  • Down Among the Sticks and Bones (by Seanan McGuire, Shari’s review here)
  • The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (by Robert Louis Stevenson)
  • When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain (by Nghi Vo, my review here)
  • The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water (by Zen Cho)
  • A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe (by Alex White, my review here)
  • The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (by Douglas Adams)
  • The Only Thing Worse Than Me is You (by Lily Anderson)
  • An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth (by Chris Hadfield)
  • Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day (by Seanan McGuire)
  • Everyone’s a Aliebn When Ur an Aliebn Too (by Jomny Sun)

What are some of your favorite book titles?

When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain

November 30, 2020 by Mackenzie No Comments

Thank you so so much to Tor.com for providing me with an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

I had this book on my “must buy immediately list” as soon as I heard about it because I loved the first novella in the series so much. I say series, but you can totally read these as standalone novellas. They both follow the same main character but absolutely no knowledge of the previous one is needed. If you’d like to read my review of the first novella, you can find it here. This one is just as incredible, and I think I loved it MORE if that’s even possible. WTTCDTM is a story within a story, and both tales are fierce and magical and beautiful. I’ll try to keep this review short, since it’s a novella and I don’t want to give too much away!

Publisher Recommendation: Tor.com Publishing

November 16, 2020 by Mackenzie No Comments

I don’t know if many of you keep track of who the publisher is for the books you read, but in general I don’t. There are so many! And the big publishing houses publish so many books it’s hard to keep track. There are a few exceptions for me, and today I’ll be recommending one in particular: Tor.com Publishing!

The Empress of Salt and Fortune

March 11, 2020 by Mackenzie No Comments

I had been wanting to read this novella since the cover was revealed because it’s beauuuuutiful. After finishing, it is almost more beautiful because you know the significance of the different animals that are depicted. This novella tells the tale of the titular Empress of Salt and Fortune, and what her life was like.
