#SciFiMonth – Rated Fresh! (a.k.a. Throwback Thursday)

Did you know that November is #SciFiMonth? Well now you do. It is hosted by Lisa at Dear Geek Place and Imyril at There’s Always Room for One More. You can find Imyril’s welcome post here, and Lisa’s welcome post here. I’ve seen posts on Twitter, and I know my friend Crini is participating, so I said what the heck. Why not ? So this is me joining in the fun. There is a list of prompts here, if you need some inspiration, but you can also post whatever you like.

Today I’m going with the daily prompt from the prompt list, which is about sci-fi books published more than 2 years ago. It’s very hard to cut down a list and not list every book ever lol. But I restrained myself, and managed to keep this to 10 books that I’ve read and loved, and 10 books that are on my TBR.

10 Books I’ve Read and Loved

  1. Red Rising by Pierce Brown – adult
  2. All Systems Red by Martha Wells – adult, novella
  3. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers – adult
  4. A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe by Alex White adult – adult
  5. Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey – adult
  6. Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan – adult, graphic novel
  7. Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O’Keefe – adult
  8. Killing Gravity by Corey J. White – adult, novella
  9. Zero Sum Game by S.L. Huang – adult
  10. Want by Cindy Pon – young adult

Almost all of these (with the exception of Zero Sum Game and Want) take place in space. I guess I’ve got a thing for space operas haha. These are also all first books in a series, and I highly recommend the rest of each series as well.

10 Books on My TBR

  1. Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds – adult
  2. A Red Peace by Spencer Ellsworth – adult, novella
  3. Binti by Nnedi Okorafor – adult, novella
  4. God’s War by Kameron Hurley – adult
  5. Hunger Makes the Wolf by Alex Wells – adult
  6. Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky – adult
  7. Ascension by Jacqueline Koyanagi – adult
  8. Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee – adult
  9. The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi – adult
  10. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie – adult

Once again!! These are all space operas!!! I do really have a type with science fiction. Maybe it’s the astrophysicist in me coming out.

Have you read any of these? What are some of your favorite older science fiction books?
