2020 Bookish Goals!

Do you like setting goals for yourself in the new year? I know doing New Year’s resolutions is a big thing, but I prefer setting goals rather than resolutions – it’s really just semantics tbh but to me goals are smaller things and resolutions are these big nebulous things and harder to achieve (and easier to give up on). Maybe it’s all just in my head haha but this is how it works for me. So here are a few of my goals, just the book related ones!

1.) Read all the unread books I own

This is a continued goal from 2019, and will probably be a goal for as long as I live LOL. There are a few books I’ve had for ages and I really want to get to them! So this is a way to force myself to do that haha. It’s also a way of controlling my book buying, since this goal is really like “read books I own rather than buy new ones to read.” I don’t completely prevent myself from getting new books! I just limit it as much as I can.

2.) Read more books from the library

This is going to help with limiting my buying new books. I also just love the library! They’re such a great resource. I’m pretty lucky that I have two libraries I can access so yay! More books! I only borrow ebooks and audiobooks, but I’m hoping to go in to my local library more in the coming year. This way, I will also only buy books I know I really love.

3.) Read more diversely

I think a decent number of books I read this year were diverse, but I want to do a better job of seeking them out and promoting diverse books and diverse authors! It’s so important for everyone to be able to see themselves in literature, and for all authors to be able to write what they want, so I want to be a force for good in helping people find diverse books.

4.) Write a full review for 1/3 of the books I read

I did okay with at least writing short reviews (at least a few sentences) for most of the books I read this year, but I want to get into the habit of really being a reviewer! I think 1/3 is a good goal for me, it’s not too much pressure so I can choose which books I want to review if I’m not feeling it one day or another. Plus that means more blog posts 😂

I think that’s mostly it for my bookish goals! As you can see, some of them are kinda two things in one, but I think that’ll be good for me. What are some of your 2020 bookish goals? Do we share any of the same goals?
