Looking Back at May 2021

So…May is over. That’s a thing. I didn’t get much blogging done, as it was a hard month for me. But!! I did do a lot of reading. And gaming. Both are an escape for me, so naturally I’ve done a lot of both this month haha. So without further ado, let’s see what kinda stuff I did this month!

What Did I Read?

  1. The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty
  2. The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty
  3. Counting Down with You by Tashie Bhuiyan
  4. The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez
  5. People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
  6. Horrid by Katrina Leno
  7. The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni
  8. Lore by Alexandra Bracken

I had four favorites this month, which is half of the books that I read haha. Those being: The Kingdom of Copper, People We Meet On Vacation, Horrid, and Lore. I love that I these are across a few different genres! KoC and Lore are both fantasy, PWMOV is contemporary/romance, and Horrid is fantasy horror! I’m a massive horror baby, but Horrid wasn’t that scary. And I love Katrina Leno (which you can see from this post). If you are thinking about wanting to try horror, I highly recommend this book. Also, I’m in a huge Greek myth phase right now because of a game, so I picked up Lore. It was such a wild ride, and a great modern take on Greek mythology! I loved it.

What Did I Play?

Last month I mentioned that I started the game “Hades.” This month…oh boy did I play this game hahaha. I’m honestly amazed with it. The storyline is incredible, and you can really tell there was a MASSIVE amount of work put into it. You can play for so many hours and still discover new pieces of the story. I really love how the game is it’s own take on the classic stories of Greek mythology. There are many different side characters (Achilles, Orpheus, Eurydice, all the gods and goddesses, etc) and each of them has their own story as well. I’ve been looking up fan art for the game recently because I just love it so much haha. I’ve technically “beaten” the game (i.e. completed the main storyline) but as I said, there’s just so much to this game that even playing beyond the main story, I’m still discovering more and having fun.

What Did I Watch?

I haven’t been watching much tv lately, I’ve just been watching a lot of Twitch streams. Mostly a single streamer, who plays Teamfight Tactics. It’s kinda fun to be able to watch someone live who is interacting with their viewers, it makes the experience a little richer. However, there was a new Star Wars show that started this month! It’s an animated show called The Bad Batch. It occurs after Episode III and follows a group of rogue clones. I love Star Wars, and I’m loving this show a lot. And in the last few days, I started re-watching one of my favorite shows, Elementary. It’s a retelling (classic haha) of Sherlock Holmes, set in New York City in the modern day. Well, I say modern day but I guess the first season aired in 2012 haha. The Watson character is played by Lucy Liu, and she’s awesome. I love this show so much.

What Did I Listen To?

My boyfriend and I listen to a podcast called The Adventure Zone, which is a Dungeons and Dragons podcast run by three brothers and their dad. They are SO funny, and so creative. They have three different full seasons so far, and this month we finished listening to their most recent season called Graduation. It’s about three characters who enter a school not for heroes and villains – but for sidekicks and henchpeople. It was amazing and hilarious. They are starting a new season called Ethersea which takes place in an underwater kingdom, so I’m excited about that.

How was your May? Did you read anything fun? Or consume any other sort of cool media?
