Six Degrees of Separation, Bookish Edition! (part 2)

A few weeks ago Ri and I did a bookish six degrees of separation post (which you can read here). We had a ton of fun and wanted to do it again, so here is our part 2! Thanks to our friend C (find her blog here) for suggesting our starting point for today – Velocity Weapon!

Mackenzie:
One of the major plot points of Velocity Weapon centers around Bero, and AI who controls an enemy warship. This really reminds me of the Murderbot series – and specifically the character ART. ART appears in the second Murderbot novella, and though it isn’t an enemy, it has kind of an uncertain morality when you first meet it. Highly recommend these novellas (and one novel)!

Ri:
Hmm okay Murderbot has planetary missions, which makes me think of The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet! I love that this book has a great mix of characters (and species!) and I’m always a fan of the family trope so… this is good in my books 😉

Mackenzie:
Becky Chambers is an incredible author. I loved TLWTASAP, but I think my favorite book by her is A Psalm for the Wild-Built. This novella is about a tea monk and a robot talking to people and discovering things about life. It’s such a feel good book and I love it so much.

Ri:
A feel good book with a tea monk… hmm… I definitely have to go with The Tea Dragon Society! It’s such a wholesome book about friendship and tea dragons and I wish they existed in real life.

Mackenzie:
The Tea Dragon Society sounds like a wonderfully cozy graphic novel – which then makes me think of Mooncakes! I mean, just the title sounds cozy. One of the main characters is a witch who runs her grandmothers’ bookstore. The other is a werewolf who has been wandering around for years, and hasn’t found a home yet. I haven’t read this yet, but I would really love to soon!

Ri:
Alright let’s see… a character who works in bookshop and a character who wanders from place to place for years? I HAVE to go with The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. This book gave me all the feels! Seriously, I couldn’t even type up a review for it, I was that speechless haha.

I feel like this is such a lovely set of books that really represents both of our reading tastes! Especially lately, cozy fantasy and sci-fi has been a go to – i.e. choices 3-5. Have you read any of these? What would’ve been your first connection from Velocity Weapon?
