Colour Me Read Challenge: February Challenge Card

February 1, 2017 by Ri 3 Comments

colour me read challenge

Since February is known for Valentine’s Day I feel like it’s the perfect time to read romance books. I’m not big on Romance so this will be a challenge for me, but I am looking forward to reading more poetry!

Will you take up this month’s challenge?

I’ll be reading Heartless by Marissa Meyer and Persuasion by Jane Austen so I feel like that definitely takes care of the Romance genre.

As for poetry, I might read Langston Hughes or Maya Angelou! What about you?

Colour Me Read Challenge: January Challenge Card

December 31, 2016 by Ri No Comments

colour me read challenge january

With a new year comes a new challenge! The #ColourMeReadChallenge genres for January are Action and Adventure 😎🏔⚔

Action fiction is a form of genre fiction whose subject matter is characterized by emphasis on exciting action sequences.

Adventure fiction focuses on an event/series of events that happens outside the course of a protagonist’s ordinary life, usually accompanied by danger, often by physical action.

Action and Adventure are two genres often seen together and tend to overlap with other genres (e.g. fantasy, crime, sci-fi, war novels, etc).

This month I’ll be buddy reading Illuminae with some bookstagrammers and I think it fits this challenge! I could be wrong though 🤔 any thoughts from someone who’s read it?

Will you be participating in this month’s challenge? Which book(s) come to mind?

Colour Me Read Challenge: December Challenge Card

December 2, 2016 by Ri No Comments

colour me read challenge

I’m a couple of days late but it’s HERE! ✨💝  For those of you waiting for December’s Colour Me Read Challenge, please send Rae a hug/book/gingerbread cookie because if she didn’t ask me about the challenge, I would have skipped it 🙈  Given that December is already a busy month for many, I didn’t know if people would be up for a challenge! I know some of you are interested, so this is for you 😙
⎼⎼⎼
Your challenge, should you accept it:

🎄 Cross-genre
Also known as ‘hybrid genre’ is a genre in fiction that blends elements of two or three different genres in literature. Some examples include: historical fantasy, romantic comedy, sci-fi and mystery, supernatural drama, etc. There is no strict definition so it’s also open to interpretation! I didn’t even know this was an official genre, so imagine my delight when Rae (bless her) suggested it to me!

🎄 Reader’s choice
This is not necessarily a genre but if there was a genre from the previous challenges you didn’t get to, now’s the time to pick it up! Another option is going back to a genre you loved because of this challenge OR simply going back to your favourite! Here’s a list of the past genres we’ve done/covered:

June: Contemporary / Romance
July: Classics / Historical Fiction
Aug: Fantasy / Sci-fi
Sept: Self-Help / Informational
Oct: Thriller / Horror
Nov: Children’s literature / Young adult
⎼⎼⎼
If you loved this challenge THANK YOU for participating whenever you can. ❤️ I’m excited about planning for 2017 and I’d love to know genres you’d be interested in seeing! Do you guys prefer getting the card well before the next month or are you okay waiting til the 1st? Let me know 😊

Colour Me Read Challenge: November Challenge Card

October 31, 2016 by Ri No Comments

colour me read challenge nov-

Genres:

  • Children’s Literature
A genre of fiction intended for children and young people. Books under this category include Harry Potter, the Chronicles of Narnia, the Little Prince, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and many others.
  • Young Adult Fiction
A genre of fiction published for readers ages 12 to 18. Books under this category include the Raven Cycle, the Red Rising series, Six of Crows, etc.

While books published under these genres have defined age groups, this doesn’t mean readers outside this age range can’t enjoy these stories. I myself love children’s fiction and can’t wait to read my picks for next month. If I could recommend one book from each genre, it would be The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo (children’s) and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (YA)!

Which books will you be reading for next month’s challenge?

If this is your first time learning about this reading challenge, you can check my post here to find out what it’s all about. Happy reading! ❤️

Book Review: Reasons to Stay Alive

October 2, 2016 by Ri No Comments

reasons to stay aliveTitle: Reasons to Stay Alive
Author: Matt Haig
Genre: Self-Help, Non-Fiction
Pages: 266
Rating: ★★★★

I want life. I want to read it and write it and feel it and live it. I want, for as much of the time as possible in this blink-of-an-eye existence we have, to feel all that can be felt. I hate depression. I am scared of it. Terrified, in fact. But at the same time, it has made me who I am. And if – for me – it is the price of feeling life, it’s a price always worth paying.

Reasons to Stay Alive is about making the most of your time on earth. In the western world the suicide rate is highest amongst men under the age of 35. Matt Haig could have added to that statistic when, aged 24, he found himself staring at a cliff-edge about to jump off. This is the story of why he didn’t, how he recovered and learned to live with anxiety and depression. It’s also an upbeat, joyous and very funny exploration of how live better, love better, read better and feel more.
