Colour Me Read Challenge: December Challenge Card

December 2, 2016 by Ri No Comments

colour me read challenge

I’m a couple of days late but it’s HERE! ✨💝  For those of you waiting for December’s Colour Me Read Challenge, please send Rae a hug/book/gingerbread cookie because if she didn’t ask me about the challenge, I would have skipped it 🙈  Given that December is already a busy month for many, I didn’t know if people would be up for a challenge! I know some of you are interested, so this is for you 😙
⎼⎼⎼
Your challenge, should you accept it:

🎄 Cross-genre
Also known as ‘hybrid genre’ is a genre in fiction that blends elements of two or three different genres in literature. Some examples include: historical fantasy, romantic comedy, sci-fi and mystery, supernatural drama, etc. There is no strict definition so it’s also open to interpretation! I didn’t even know this was an official genre, so imagine my delight when Rae (bless her) suggested it to me!

🎄 Reader’s choice
This is not necessarily a genre but if there was a genre from the previous challenges you didn’t get to, now’s the time to pick it up! Another option is going back to a genre you loved because of this challenge OR simply going back to your favourite! Here’s a list of the past genres we’ve done/covered:

June: Contemporary / Romance
July: Classics / Historical Fiction
Aug: Fantasy / Sci-fi
Sept: Self-Help / Informational
Oct: Thriller / Horror
Nov: Children’s literature / Young adult
⎼⎼⎼
If you loved this challenge THANK YOU for participating whenever you can. ❤️ I’m excited about planning for 2017 and I’d love to know genres you’d be interested in seeing! Do you guys prefer getting the card well before the next month or are you okay waiting til the 1st? Let me know 😊

Colour Me Read Challenge: November Challenge Card

October 31, 2016 by Ri No Comments

colour me read challenge nov-

Genres:

  • Children’s Literature
A genre of fiction intended for children and young people. Books under this category include Harry Potter, the Chronicles of Narnia, the Little Prince, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and many others.
  • Young Adult Fiction
A genre of fiction published for readers ages 12 to 18. Books under this category include the Raven Cycle, the Red Rising series, Six of Crows, etc.

While books published under these genres have defined age groups, this doesn’t mean readers outside this age range can’t enjoy these stories. I myself love children’s fiction and can’t wait to read my picks for next month. If I could recommend one book from each genre, it would be The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo (children’s) and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (YA)!

Which books will you be reading for next month’s challenge?

If this is your first time learning about this reading challenge, you can check my post here to find out what it’s all about. Happy reading! ❤️

Colour Me Read Challenge: September Challenge Card

Genres:

  • Self-help/self-development/self-improvement

Books in this genre are based on one’s own effort regarding self-guided improvements in their physical, emotional, mental, relational, or economical well-being. Check out Goodreads’ Self-help Books Shelf for examples!

  • Informational

Informational books explain known facts about specific topics and can be about anything! Want to learn about photography? There’s a book for that! What about languages or history? There are books for those too! More likely than not, there are books about any topic you’re interested in learning. Goodreads doesn’t have the best book shelf for informational books (I checked) but finding books in this genre is easy. If you’re interested in learning about it, Google will likely point you to the most popular books in that area.

I hope this clears up questions you may have about these genres. It’s important to keep in mind that these genres can overlap and that’s okay! The main focus of this challenge is to get you to read a book outside of your comfort zone. If you don’t regularly read these books and this challenge encourages you to pick one from either genre, it’s a win-win situation!

Colour Me Read Challenge: June Challenge Card

May 25, 2016 by Ri No Comments

CMR-June.png

As May winds down to a close I give you the June Challenge Card for the #colourmereadchallenge!

GENRES OF THE MONTH:
📖 Contemporary – a type of fiction that creates imaginary characters and situations that depict our world and society. It focuses on themes of growing up and confronting personal and social problems. This genre portrays characters coming to understand themselves and others.

📖 Romance – a type of fiction that places its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an “emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.”

I think this one will be a challenge for me since my experience with these genres tend to be 50/50. 🙈

Which genre do you think you’ll be picking? Did a book come to mind? Let me know!

I’ll probably pick a book by John Green or Stephanie Perkins, since their books typically fall under both. 😊

I hope you guys continue to spread the word about this challenge! Never hesitate to repost the Challenge Card or post a photo with your book(s) while using the hashtag. The response so far has been amazing and I hope you continue to have fun with me as I do with you! ❤️😁
