Six Degrees of Separation, Bookish Edition! (part 2)

September 27, 2022 by Mackenzie No Comments

A few weeks ago Ri and I did a bookish six degrees of separation post (which you can read here). We had a ton of fun and wanted to do it again, so here is our part 2! Thanks to our friend C (find her blog here) for suggesting our starting point for today – Velocity Weapon!

Six Degrees of Separation, Bookish Edition!

September 7, 2022 by Mackenzie 2 Comments

As you may have noticed, my lovely co-blogger Ri has made her triumphant return to book blogging! The two of us thought we’d do a collaborative post to celebrate both being actively blogging again. We were playing around with ideas and I remembered that a looooong time ago, I did a bookish blog tag called “Six Degrees of Separation.” This involves starting with a given book, and then jumping from book to book making connections between them. You can see the previous posts I did here and here. You may have heard of the term in the context of how you are related to famous people, but this is the bookish edition.

We thought it would be fun to do this but trade back and forth in making connections to different books! We asked for suggestions for a starting book from our friends. And our friend Steph suggested that we start with Pachinko. But where do we go from there….?

Six Degrees of Separation – Murmur –> ??

June 1, 2019 by Mackenzie 2 Comments

Happy June! I did one of these Six Degrees of Separation posts two months ago and it was a lot of fun, so I wanted to do it again! Basically you make a list of six books, with each one connecting to the next in some way. It can be any kind of connection! I love this because I love seeing the different ways people think and make connections. This meme (actually called #6Degrees) is hosted by Kate at Books Are My Favorite and Best.

Today’s starting point is Murmur by Will Eaves. This was the winner of the 2019 Wellcome Prize, which celebrates topics of health and medicine in literature. I haven’t read it, but the Goodreads synopsis sounds really intriguing:

“Taking its cue from the arrest and legally enforced chemical castration of the mathematician Alan Turing, Murmur is the account of a man who responds to intolerable physical and mental stress with love, honour and a rigorous, unsentimental curiosity about the ways in which we perceive ourselves and the world. Formally audacious, daring in its intellectual inquiry and unwaveringly humane, Will Eaves’s new novel is a rare achievement.”

Six Degrees of Separation – How to be both –> ??

April 6, 2019 by Mackenzie 16 Comments

I remember a few years ago, everyone was into the whole Six Degrees of Separation thing. It’s basically the idea that everyone is connected to any other person by six connections or fewer. I haven’t heard people talk about it in a while but I recently found the book version of it! Emma Chapman and Annabel Smith created #6DEGREES, where book bloggers share links between books in six moves. Here are the rules if you want to join in! Basically they choose a starting book and then you make your own chain however you want.

Today’s starting point is……How to be both by Ali Smith! (You’ll have to read all the way to the end to see where I end up 😉)
