The Birthday Book Tag

Guess what? Yes, it’s my birthday! I was looking for fun tags to do and I found this one from Antonia @ Always Books. So let’s get started!

1) Birthday Cake (A book with a plot that seems cliché but you adore it anyway)

Hmm I think it’s not so much the plot – because that was pretty novel – but the general idea of urban fantasy, and the kickass heroine. But the Kate Daniels series! I think the basic idea of warrior girl fights bad guys and there’s werewolves and vampires is a pretty cliché premise, but oh man you guys! This series is so much more than that basic premise. Even the werewolves and vampires are totally not like what you’d think. And Kate herself is THE BEST. So yeah. I love this series haha. Also – there’s nothing wrong with loving cliché things!

2) Party Guests (Your most anticipated book release for this year)

Oh man. Just one?? Idk it says party guests plural so I’m gonna list a few lol. First of all! The Worst of All Possible Worlds by Alex White, which is the conclusion to the space fantasy series called The Salvagers. One of my fav series for sure!! Then there’s The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. SCREAM. SCREAM FOREVER. And also there’s the full length Murderbot novel, Network Effect. And a gender-swapped Alexander the Great retelling in space (Unconquerable Sun), Harrow the Ninth, When Jackals Storm the Walls…..oh my god THERE’S TOO MANY HELP.

3) Birthday Presents (A book that surprised you with how much you loved it)

OH man. Have you heard me talk about Middlegame? By my queen Seanan McGuire? If not, go read this review of it, or this post I wrote about Seanan McGuire. I knew I was going to like it, but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. And I didn’t know exactly how MIND-BLOWING it would be. I highly recommend it to fantasy fans.

4) “Happy Birthday” Song (A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got)

I’ve been seeing a lot of promotional material for The House in the Cerulean Sea! On Instagram and Twitter at least which are my main platforms. I was lucky enough to read an eARC (here’s my review) and I LOVED IT. I definitely think it’s worth all the hype I saw! It’s a cozy and happy read, and I highly recommend it.

5) Happy Music (A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes)

I literally post a quote in the beginning of my Instagram caption every day, but I’m so bad at remembering them. I have to look them up every time LOL. It seems like I should probably keep some sort of record with my favorite quotes haha. ANYWAY. I’m going to cheat and go with a series here, the Wayward Children series of novellas by….yes. Seanan McGuire. It’s all about children finding places where they belong, and ugh. It’s just the best. Here’s one of the quotes I love just to show you:

“She had tried to make sure they knew that there were a hundred, a thousand, a million different ways to be a girl, and that all of them were valid, and that neither of them was doing anything wrong.” (Down Among the Sticks and Bones, Seanan McGuire)

6) Getting Older (A book that you read a long time ago, but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader)

Oh man there are so many! Pretty much a lot of the books I read in high school. It’s funny, we’re exposed to a lot of important literature in high school but I don’t think we have the life experience to appreciate what we’re reading! For example, Kindred by Octavia Butler. I read that when I was like, 14 or 15. I definitely did NOT appreciate all of the themes in it, and I think I missed a lot of the importance of it. I really should go back and read it again.

7) Sweet Birthday Memories (A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life)

I don’t think it’s any surprise to anyone that I’m gonna say Tamora Pierce’s books. I wrote this post recently about how her books have been with me through a lot of hard times. They hold so much happiness and nostalgia for me! I love them so much.

Anyway yeah happy birthday to me 😂 and I hope you check out some of these books! I love them!
